A Memorable Memorial Day

When you went to bed last night you were probably thinking about the "unofficial start" to summer.  Family, friends, the BBQ, the boat (if you have one) just a relaxing day.

The Lies Revealed
Well so much for making plans.  At 8:00 AM CST Ohio State drops a bomb (sorry for the inappropriate reference) and announces that Jim Tressel has resigned.    If I were a betting man and by reading between the lines, Tressel took the high road and resigned before he was going to get fired.

Ohio State didn't want to fire him but when the Sports Illustrated report comes out, they may have been left with no choice.

I said in March on my radio show on KXNO that Tressel would not last the summer (I wasn't alone) but I was right.

Luke Fickell
This is going to be a long Big 10 season with speculation and rumors running wild.  I don't know who I feel sorry for more, the coaches like Bo Pelini who will be asked every single day if he's heard from Ohio State or if he's interested.  Or Buckeye interim head coach, Luke Fickell who's been given virtually no chance to keep the job after the season.

Click Here to read the Bo Pelini's statement regarding Jim Tressel (odd don't  you think?) and the odds on who will be the next Ohio State coach. (Thanks Lincoln Journal Star)  I find it interesting that the Big 10 website has no mention of the resignation, this is pretty big news to the league.

Couple of Thoughts:  Ohio State should hire a new head coach ASAP.  It risks losing an entire recruiting class.

As much as Bo Pelini will be mentioned for the job and not matter how much he wants it, Bo will not be the Buckeyes first choice in fact I don't see where his is the 2nd or 3rd.

Speaking of Bo and Ohio State,  Tressel will be missed when the Buckeyes visit Lincoln in October.  The Vest had become part of the OSU mystique.  It's still big game but just not as big.

Brady Hoke, now is your chance, don't screw it up.

What's the waiting period on Tressel being invited back to dot the "I" in Ohio?  He's been humiliated folks, he won't be banished.  In fact I think he coaches again it all depends on how bad the NCAA report on him is.

Thanks to Sean Keeler of the Des Moines Register for this observant factoid,  Iowa's Kirk Ferentz is now the highest paid coach in the Big 10.
