Mike Anderson Out, Now What?

Tom Osborne
The last guy Tom Osborne had to fire was Bill Callahan, that was an easy choice.  Getting rid of Mike Anderson wasn't easy but it was the right thing to do.  Makes you wonder what the tipping point was.  Wins and losses?  Fan support?  Media pressure?   Give one thing to the good doctor, he doesn't waste anytime.

Dave Van Horn set a standard of what Nebraska Baseball should be like.  Sure Mike Anderson took two teams to the College World Series but you can make the argument they were not his players but rather the guy he replaced.

Missing three straight Big 12 tournaments is no acceptable and when Haymarket Park is no longer packed and ticket sales to a sport that already loses money starts to dwindle you have a problem.

Mike Anderson Fired
High school coaches I talked to over the years have never been that impressed with Anderson, in fact they didn't care for him at all.  If you can't win over the high school coaches that you might as well pack up and leave.

But here's the problem, now what?   Can the Huskers hire a better coach than Mike Anderson?  Nebraska is going to the Big 10 folks, this is a major step down as far as baseball goes.  Whomever Tom Osborne brings in will have plenty of talent to work with or so we've been told by the man who just got fired.  But winning in the short term is no solution for a long term problem.  Northern school in a northern league.  On July 1 2011 the Nebraska baseball job is no longer that attractive.   Which means he can get a new coach a lot cheaper than the 330 grand a year Anderson was hauling in.

I  know the entire coaching staff was let go, but does that include Darin Erstad?  He was a volunteer coach, can a volunteer be fired?
