Providing For The Student Athletes

With tongue and cheek in hand, it's become glaringly obvious in the wake the Ohio State scandal that student athletes just don't get enough provided to them.   Why else in the wake of the nightmare in Columbus would the Big 10 Conference even consider paying players a little extra so they can live.  I can see clearly why Jim Delaney is worried.

Right now student athletes get:

  • Full tuition taken care of
  • Books paid for
  • 1st class travel to and from games
  • Training table (food)
  • Gym membership (training facilities)
  • Free gear (Nike, Adidas, Under Armour)
  • Free academic support (Tutoring for the stupid and lazy)
Looking over this list I can see why the student athletes need even more.   Since the University is providing already there's no reason it couldn't expand for educational purposes, like:
  • On Campus tattoo parlor run by the art department
  • The College of Business could set up and run
    • On campus sports bar (watch games and drink with buddies)
    • On campus night club (drink and dance with the ladies)
    • On campus car lot (Buy here, pay here)
      • This includes a field trip every semester to the auto auction
  • On campus barber shop (Braids and buzz cuts)
By providing the these needs to the student athletes, a university is also providing hands on educational experience to other.  Isn't that what college is all about?
