Pelini Could Help Husker Hoopsters

Earlier this month on this blog I wrote about Husker fans not being stupid when it comes to basketball.     Despite playing a weak non-conference schedule, Nebraska is a better basketball team than I thought and most people thought they would be.

The Huskers will be able to transition into the Big 10 and continue to improve and compete.  If Doc Sadler wants to compete in the upper half of the league he has to do something about his big men.  I’m not going to beat around the bush here, they are SOFT!  If you want to win in the Big 12 or the Big 10 your big men have to be willing to bang!  The Husker big men run from a fight inside, they sure has hell have never looked for one.

Last night the Huskers lost at Texas Tech 72-71.  A disappointing loss against the worst team in the Big 12.   Not shocking, the Husker big men did nothing to help their cause.  Nebraska got out rebounded by the Red Raiders 36-25.    The numbers by the big men are downright embarrassing.

Jorge Brian Diaz, he stands 6-11 but could only come up with 1 rebound.  That not what you want from a starter.

Brandon Ubel, coming off the bench the 6-10 faired a little better with 5 rebounds.

Andre Almeida,  at 6-11 and a wide body (he’s fat) but could only come down with one rebound in 21 minutes of action, the most minutes of any of the big men.

Because the Husker big men prefer to get pushed around instead of push back Texas Tech had 17 second chance points compared to Nebraska’s 4.

Doc Sadler has not had a decent big man since Aleks Maric and it looks like he can’t change these guys but there might be somebody who can.

Maybe Bo Pelini Should spend some time with the Big Red post players.  Seriously, Pelini loves basketball and doesn’t tolerate weakness.  Nebraska has a talented guard court which contributes most the scoring.   What the Huskers need are some big men who want to play defense, rebound and fight.    Bo’s defenses are known to be aggressive, hardnosed, disciplined and scrappy.  If he could teach the same to the big men on the basketball team, the Huskers wouldn’t lose at Texas Tech, for that matter they might win  at a lot of other places too.
