Doc Trying To Keep The Huskers Alive

Thursday morning appearing on  the “Travis and Tim Show on Sports Radio 1460 KXNO in Des Moines, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi summed it up best, “the bubble is bad.”

Because the bubble is so bad Nebraska has new life in its hopes of making the NCAA Tournament.  Now before you Big Red fans get too excited, take note that the Huskers are on life support.

Nebraska is at Colorado on Saturday to end the Big 12 regular season, whichever team loses will have the plug pulled on them, the winner keeps breathing, but with help.

Joe Lunardi

“It’s possible if not probable that one of those two teams plays their way back in but it’s going to take two wins in the conference tournament to do so” says Lunardi.

Yes, "Joey Brackets" says two wins at the Big 12 Tournament when a lot of fans on even some media members say a win on Saturday and one win at the conference tournament would be enough.  Lunardi picked 64 of the 65 teams in last year’s bracket correctly so he knows a thing or two about what it takes to get in.

“That first day (conference tournament) win does not help you.  If you are playing a team in the lower 1/3 of the league can only hurt, then you have win the game just to get to the game that can help them.”  Lunardi goes on to say why Nebraska and Colorado might have their bubble burst.

“Both the Huskers and Buffalos had dreadful non-conference schedules and both were dreadful away from home.”

I can’t argue with him.   Nebraska played cream puffs in the conference their only road games this season were Big 12 games where they were 1-6.  They have also lost two of their last three games, wow that Texas win is a distant memory.

It’s the month of March and we are talking about life in the Husker Basketball Program but it’s getting dangerously close to flat lining.
