More Trouble On Melrose?

Government red tape!  All of the sudden it looks like city officials in Iowa City want to be fun haters and instead of "officially" blocking vendors on Melrose Avenue, it looks like they will do it the old fashioned and cowardly way,  government red tape and restrictions.

Read the story in today's Daily Iowan

Applying and paying for a permit is one thing,  make life so miserable so you can do business is another.
But are the problems on Melrose really a vendor problem?   Here is one of my favorite quotes from the DI story.

Jean Walker of the Melrose Neighborhood Association said the neighborhood is not against having vendors at football games, but she believes more can be done to ensure her neighborhood is respected, calling on the UI, city, and neighborhood to undertake a comprehensive review.

“Football games were a lot more pleasant when we moved in, without the current congestion, trashing, urinating, vomiting, defecating and destruction of property,” Walker said. “We have a serious problem here.”

Urinating, vomiting, defecating and destruction of property from a "Big Ass Turkey Leg"?   Only if combined with 1 bourbon, 1 scotch and 1 beer.  Okay more than 1 of each.

With the permit money, maybe the Iowa City can pay for more porta-poties and trash cans?  If not and even without vendors fans and students will continue to pee, puke and yes even defecate in neighborhood yards.
