What I do know is that no team has a clear "home" field advantage by playing in Lucas Oil Stadium. Sure Purdue and Indiana are in the state but really, what are they odds they are going to make it?
This is a far cry from the Big 12 that caters to the Texas schools, or should I say the entire Southern Division. Back when the Big 12 was big enough to have a championship game it was a huge advantage for every team in the South to play in Texas.
For a good read on this, check out the ESPN Big 10 Blog and Adam Rittenberg, he's been pretty close to the situation. Rittenberg was on my radio show and he favored Chicago, but he understands why the league picked Indy.
I think they did it for the right reasons to get it right! Instead of the wrong reasons like keeping the biggest and best happy.
I was in favor of an outside venue, but it's easy to understand why Delaney went with Indy, especially when he says that they (the Big 10) wants to get the game established before moving it around.
ReplyDeleteKinda weird that I saw on a Husker message board that from Omaha to Indy, it's about 10 miles closer than what it is from Omaha to Dallas.
I would love to see it outdoors in Chicago but as Bears fan I also know how crappy that field gets in November and December.
ReplyDeleteIndianapolis and the Big Ten Championships just seem to go well. Chicago is a great sports city, I just think that Indy is more fan friendly and will be the better venue.
