He really had no choice, a redshirt freshman, Martinez would have had to sit out another season if he left and that would have been a total waste of eligibility.
I think this is a good move for Martinez. He has a lot of growing up to do but when healthy he showed flashes of greatness especially in the running game. The Nebraska offense also seems to be tailored to utilize his skill set.
ReplyDeleteThe issue in my mind is can he stay healthy and become a much better passer. He looked like a shell of himself in the second half of this season and Nebraska struggled down the stretch to move the ball and score points. The Big Ten is typically a physical conference so running QB's take a beating. The inability to be an effective passer could stiffle the offense again if he's not productive in the run game due to health.
