12 Iowa Football players were hospitalized on Tuesday. Read Hawk Central Story Here because of HIPPA laws, the cause of the players condition is on being released. However, there are various reports that it the hospitalization and treatment has to do with a kidney problem, Read Report Here . The Des Moines Register is reporting tonight what I did earlier on this blog and that is the problem is due to winter workouts.

Joining TNT on Wednesday morning will be Dr. Rob Zatechka. Rob is former Nebraska Cornhusker offensive lineman who was the 1994 Big 8 Athlete of the Year. Rob played professionally for the N.Y. Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I talked to him tonight about the symptoms, he basically said this happens because athletes are working out so hard that their kidney's can literally shut down.
Dr. Rob will join us at 6:30 AM for a discussion on the players and give us more insight. I can tell you Dr. Rob is one of the smartest men I know and can translate medical talk into technical terms that we can understand. He also has the unique perspective of being an elite athlete and knows first hand what players are going through.
