Weekend Border Shots

Shonn Greene
Shonn Greene- What a game for the former Hawk who plays for a team that talks the talk and walks the walk.   Seriously I’ve never seen a team talk as much about their dislike for an opponent as the Jets did about the Patriots.

Greene with 17 carries and 76 yards against the Pats in the AFC Divisional Playoff but it was his 20 yard touchdown with under two minutes to go the sealed the deal for the Jets.  Greene only had one, yes one 100 yard game all season for the jets sharing time with Ladainian Tomlinson.  He’s a work horse and barring injury his best years are ahead of him.

Husker Hoops:  Last week I wrote about Nebraska basketball fans not being stupid and wouldn’t be fooled by the Huskers weak non conference schedule.  Even though Nebraska lost both of its games on the road, it was the 63-60 loss at 3rd ranked Kansas that got my attention.   The Big Red proves it can play with the big boys, now it to do it on a consistent basis for the rest of the season.  This is a big year for Doc Sadler, he’s getting the practice facility he’s always wanted, a new arena and a new conference. The new bells and whistles will bring an expectation to Nebraska Basketball that is usually reserved for the football coach.

Hawkeye Hoops:  Is it next season yet?  Seriously, I’m starting to feel sorry for the Hawks.   They lose at Minnesota, their 5th straight.   Iowa is by far the worst team in the Big Ten (Thanks Todd Lickliter) and looking at the schedule, their only hope for a conference win might be on the 23rd of January at Home against Indiana.  Anything else would be considered and upset.  I set an over/under on the number of wins Iowa would get this season at 10, I took the over.  I’m glad I didn’t use real money.

Hawkeye Wrestling:  Iowa’s 69 straight dual win streak comes to an end with a 15-15 tie at Oklahoma State.  Taking the glass is half full approach to life; the Hawks are still unbeaten in their last 70 duals.  When is ESPN going to pick up on this story?  Seriously if this was women’s basketball we would have half hour specials and a countdown clock going.

Adam Robinson
Adam Robinson:  Either the former Hawkeye running back took a seriously big bong hit before he talked to the Des Moines Register and WHO-TV or he’s dead serious.  I want to believe it’s the later.  Robinson wants to return to Iowa this semester in hopes of getting back on the team.    I’m all for second chances but Robinson has already had his and he blew it.  Kirk Ferentz has to show tough love and say no.  This sends a message to the rest of the teams and recruits, misconduct will not be tolerated.  Plus, it might be good for Robinson to get a fresh start somewhere else.

Shaun Prater

Prater and Crick:  The Iowa-Nebraska game in November might turn out to be a defensive battle.  Jarred Crick will return to Nebraska for his senior season as will Iowa Defensive Back Shaun Prater. It takes guts to give up money and the NFL but I respect them both for being loyal to their University and teammates.  That says a lot about their integrity and character.

Jared Crick

Am I the only one sick and tired for recruiting news?
