Bo Pelini |
If you ask him a question he pretty much gives you a straight answer. If you ask him a dumb question he’s not afraid to give you the “are you fucking stupid” look. Like him or not, you always know where you stand with Bo and at the end of the day that all you want.
Bo looked a little uncomfortable at Tuesday's spring football news conference. He knew he would have to answer dozens of questions about all the coaching changes he’s made since the bowl game. For the most part Bo has avoided the questions by the large majority of Nebraska media. Today Bo could not hide.
Bo is savy however and If you don’t ask him a direct question you might not get a direct answer. Sometimes you need to listen closely to interpret what he’s saying, I always get the feeling Bo is talking in code giving answers to the questions we all want to know.
This is how I translated today’s news conference:
Bo on Goals: “You know we want to win championships around here.”
Translation: If I didn’t make some changes we would be eaten alive in the Big 10
Bo on Tim Beck:” We are very much on the same page philosophically on what we want to do and what we are going to do going forward.”
Translation: Shawn Watson was still running Bill Callahan’s offense. He wasn’t going to change so I made it for him.
Bo on the new offense: “We are going to be and aggressive attacking style offense.”
Translation: Did you watch us last year? We were a bunch of pussies.
Bo on the Spread offense: “I could sit here all day and talk x’s and o’s but it wouldn’t mean a whole heck of a lot to the people listening.”
Translation: You guys don’t know a fucking thing about football and I’m not going to waste my time in trying to teach it too you.
Bo on his new staff: “It’s very clear to me on what I wanted when I put this staff together and what we have to do going forward.”
Translation: I appreciate Tom Osborne’s input to help me when I started but if I don’t change offensive coaches now I’m going to end up like Frank Solich.
Bo on when he decided to make changes: “This doesn’t happen at the end of the year. You look at things week by week, what I have to do.”
Translation: I decided to fire Shawn Watson after the Texas A&M game.
Bo on his new staff: “I want people who are going to represent me and the program, everything in a certain way.”
Translation: Whatever Marvin Sanders’ personal problem was that led to his “resignation” it is not going to fly.
So there you have it, my translation of the Bo code. We’ll see what he has to say after the Spring Game on April 16th.
